JULY 11 & 12, 2026—Christians

Christians

Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

The word “Christian” is one used by so many groups today that it may seem to have lost some of its meaning. There are groups of people of the Muslim faith in Northern Iraq who are called the “Christian tribe.” Most people of any or even no denomination in the U.S. call themselves “Christian.” Yet what does the word mean? What does it mean to be Christian?

The disciples were followers of Christ before they were called Christians in Antioch. The word “Christian” means just that, a true follower of Christ. Someone who has given it serious thought, embraces Christ’s promises, and makes it their ambition to mold their life by Christ’s example.
