Daily Reading—Genesis 9-11 / Matthew 4
WHAT GOD HAS SAID:
Matthew 4:19-20 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left
their nets, and followed him.
WHAT I HAVE SEEN:
In our passage today, we find Jesus simply saying, “Follow me,” and people immediately followed Him. No fancy speeches. No gifts or gimmicks. They simply realized He was Jesus, left everything immediately, and followed Him.
I am not criticizing new methods of attracting people to church or Christian programs. With all the distractions out there today, we often need to get their attention somehow. However, once we have their attention, it might be better to share the powerful words of Jesus instead of putting on a fancy show.
WHAT WILL YOU DO:
How can we share the plain, powerful words of Jesus?
IF YOU ARE JOURNALING:
Ask yourself, what are MY THOUGHTS concerning this passage and today’s devotion?
Do I find within this reading a CHALLENGE for my life?
What are one or two things I WILL DO today or this week to accept that CHALLENGE?
