Daily Reading—Leviticus 1-3 / Matthew 26:26-56
WHAT GOD HAS SAID:
Matthew 26:39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
WHAT I’VE NOTICED
There has long been a debate about who killed Jesus. Some say the Jewish leadership, while others blame the Roman rulers of the time. Think about this. The disciples did not want Jesus to die. They wanted Him to start a kingdom. Jesus did not really want to go through this pain, yet He willingly did so. I am sure God the Father was not excited about placing His only Son in this situation. So why did it have to happen?
Jesus said, “not as I will, but as thou wilt.” What placed Jesus on the cross of Calvary was the Word of God thousands of years earlier. It is God’s will that we should not die in our sin and perish. By His Word, He proclaimed and promised a Saviour and the defeat of Satan’s power. God always stands true to His Word.
