Look, Love, And Lead

January 13
Daily Reading – Genesis 27-28 / Matthew 9:18-38

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 9:36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

When we read the verse today, we find that Jesus looked with compassion and love upon these people who followed Him. When He looked, he saw a people who over the years had been miss-led and miss-fed. They were worn and weary from following one idea and then another. All they needed was someone to give them the truth and lead them. He then says, the harvest is plenteous, “but the labourers are few.”

Friend, today the world is the same as then. Led and fed the wrong things by wolves in sheep’s clothing. I can almost hear Jesus from heaven’s throne asking, will anyone step up and feed my sheep?

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

  Will You?

Still The Same Today

January 12
Daily Reading – Genesis 26 / Matthew 9:1-17

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 9:6 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Such a simple statement from Jesus, yet still a struggle for many today. Jesus said He wanted them to know that He had the power to forgive sin on earth. Do you believe it? Many people act as though they believe God can forgive sin, but struggle with Him actually doing it in their lives. It’s not that they don’t believe He can, but they wonder if He did for them.

Let me ask, why would Jesus come to a sin filled earth, shed His sinless blood on Calvary, be buried, raised from the dead, ascend back to heaven, sit down at the right hand of God, and then not forgive you? Wasn’t that the idea of his coming?

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

What sin do you believe it is He cannot handle?
Will you believe?

When Pigs Fly

January 11
Daily Reading – Genesis 25 / Matthew 8:23-34

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 8:32 And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Every heard, “that’ll happen when pigs fly.” Sounds impossible, but in our bible reading today we find Jesus doing the impossible. He sent the devils out of man into pigs and the pigs ran off a cliff. I can almost hear those people saying, “Did You see the pigs fly?”

What Jesus did was more spectacular than just making pigs fly. He ignored several cultural barriers to help them. These men were Gentiles, living in tombs, and demon possessed. All of which are against Jewish ceremonial laws of contact. Yet, Jesus looked past the barrier and saw the people and helped them anyway. Jesus’ love for man will overcome barriers. He wants to help you too.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

  What, “When Pigs fly,” situations
might He help you with?

January 10
Daily Reading – Genesis 24 / Matthew 8:1-22

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 8:11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

People love to feel special. To be recognized as chosen, or elect. The Jews thought that way, as they in fact were God’s chosen people. However, in today’s verse we hear Jesus telling a gentile, he would sit in the Kingdom of Heaven. Not only him, but also many like him would get in, and many of the Jews would not.

How great it is to know that in God’s eyes everyone is special. I like the phrase, “at the foot of the cross the ground is level.” What got the man in today’s passage into the Kingdom is the same thing that gets all people in. No matter the race, denomination, or gender, faith in Christ is the Key that opens the gates to heaven.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

How can you share that faith today?

January 9
Daily Reading – Genesis 21 – 23 / Matthew 7

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 7:28-29 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

If a man builds a boat from scratch, he remembers every detail about it. He recalls the splinters, and how to avoid them. He recalls the hours invested and the sacrifices made to build a vessel that will withstand the storms and hold up over time. If a man just reads about building a boat, he can only teach what he read.

When Jesus taught with authority it was because He knew what it took to build a life. Not like the scribes who read about it, yet never met the builder. Christians have met the builder. Better yet we have a testimony of what He built-in our lives.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

When you share Christ with others,
do you speak as one with authority?

Trust In God’s Care

January 8
Daily Reading – Genesis 18 – 20 / Matthew 6:16-34

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 6:26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Some have read this verse and do nothing. They read it as though God is going to supply, so I don’t have to do anything. Read it again. God cares for the birds, but they still must look for, go, and retrieve the worms He has set out for them.

Others read this and live as though they don’t believe it. They think they’ve done everything on their own. They forget who gave them oxygen and health.

God loves and cares for us. Look at how He keeps nature in balance.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

How much more do you believe He cares for you?

It’s Special!

January 7
Daily Reading – Genesis 15 – 17 / Matthew 6:1-15

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

”Hallowed be thy Name.” The term Hallowed is not one we use too often today. However, Hallowed is so important in this prayer. You see God’s name is special. Hallowed means set apart from all others, Holy, Sanctified, or Pure. It’s not like Frank or George. It’s Special. It says in the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20:7, “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.” In essence He was saying, My Name is Special, treat it so.

Sadly today we all too often here people use Jesus, Oh God, or Christ, as part of comments that have nothing to do with Him.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

How can we Hallow His name in our Heart
and help others do the same?

It’s An Earth Thing

January 6
Daily Reading – Genesis 12 – 14 / Matthew 5

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Some things happen to both born-again and the lost, and there’s nothing we can do to change that. As our verse says, when the sun shines, it shines on everyone. When the rains pour, everybody gets wet. When the winds blow, floods come, and snow falls, we all are subject to it. So it is with other things as well. We all get old, all face illness, and all must die.

My friend, it’s an earth thing. While here however, we can choose what happens in the life to come. The saved have chosen Christ and therefore life with Him where many of these things are done away. The lost by default choose eternal torment.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

What choice have you made for your eternal life to come?

His Words Are POWERFUL

January 5
Daily Reading – Genesis 10 – 11 / Matthew 4:18-25

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 4:19-20 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

In our passage today, we find Jesus simply saying, “follow me,” and people immediately followed Him. No fancy speeches. No gifts or gimmicks. They simply realized He was Jesus, left everything immediately, and followed Him.

I am not criticizing new methods of attracting people to church or Christian programs. With all the distractions out there today we often need to get their attention somehow. However, once we have their attention, it might be better to share the powerful words of Jesus instead of putting on a fancy show.

 WHAT DO YOU SAY:

How can we share the plain powerful words of Jesus?

Gloom And Doom!

January 4
Daily Reading – Genesis 8 – 9 / Matthew 4:1-17

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 4:16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Winters have always been a gloomy time in Michigan. It seems as if the sun just goes behind the clouds and hibernates until spring. Many people get feelings of depression and weariness because of this lack of sun. This is the picture we are to get from the phrase, “shadow of death.” Standing in a shadow is caused by something coming between the sun and us. How gloomy it is to stand in the shadow of death.

When Jesus steps into their life it says, “light is sprung up.” As the sun is refreshing on a gloom filled day, the SON is also refreshing on a doom filled life.

 WHAT DO YOU SAY:

How might we let the light of Christ shine through us to brighten someone’s life today?
