You Know

August 11
Daily Reading – Psalms 10-17 / Romans 2

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Romans 2:11-12 For there is no respect of persons with God. For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

People will ask about the fate of those in the world who don’t know there’s a God. Will they go to hell? Yet the bible says, You Know! If we read past Romans 2:12 it says our thoughts and conscience bear witness in our heart that there’s a God. It speaks of people not having the law, God’s written word. Yet there’s still no excuse. Why, because in their hearts they know.

It is natural to know it’s wrong to kill another person. Why, because we know life is valuable. We know in our mind committing adultery is a sin. Why, because God placed in our hearts moral boundaries concerning love. Everyone will be either judged by the written law of God, or by the law of God written in the heart.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Does anyone really have an excuse not to seek God?

Misery Loves Company

August 10
Daily Reading – Psalms 6-9 / Romans 1:21-32

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Romans 1:32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

You are who you hang out with. I’ve mentioned this before in several devotions. If you want a good idea of who people see you as, look at the people you call friends. It’s even more than just outward appearance. It’s a measure of who you are. Misery loves company.

Today’s verse says; “they which commit such things are worthy of death,” What are “such things?” They’re sinful things. Romans 6:23 says, “..the wages of sin is death…” What do they that are worthy of death enjoy? Today’s verse says; “…not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” They want to be around others who sin like them, so they don’t feel so bad about their sin..

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Why would we think we could
mask our sinfulness in a crowd of sinners?

I’m Not Ashamed, Am I?

August 9
Daily Reading – Psalms 4-5 / Romans 1:1-20

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

I have some good news! No really, I have some really great news. Not ordinary news. Not the kind of news you will see on TV. This is better than the birth of a child news, or the, “We are getting married” news. This news is life changing, extraordinary, you will never believe it’s possible kind of news. Yet, if I tell you, you might get mad. So I’ll just keep it to myself.

Wouldn’t you want to strangle someone like that? I know I would. However, that’s how many believers treat the word of God. It’s the best, life changing, really great news there ever was or ever will be. “It is the power of God unto salvation.” Still, we are afraid that someone might get angry if we tell them. Therefore, we keep it to ourselves.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

  Are we ashamed of Gospel?

Still Valid Today

August 8
Daily Reading – Psalms 1-3 / Acts 28:17-30

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Acts 28:28 Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

At the time of the writing of Acts 28, the Jewish people had controlled the written words of God for thousands of years. They had the truth in their hands. They had heard the truth with their ears, seen the truth with their eyes, and yet refused to believe the truth. Those who did were converted and healed from sins grip. Now God sends the gospel in an organized fashion to the gentiles and says “they will hear it.”

Today that promise is still true. At no time has God rescinded this statement. Will every gentile who hears this glorious truth be saved? Sadly, we know that will not be the case. Yet the statement is still true today. “The salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.”

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

  Who will you tell today?

They Changed Their Mind

August 7s
Daily Reading – Job 40-42 / Acts 28:1-16

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Acts 28:6 Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

In Acts 28, the folks on the island of Melita changed their minds a few times. First they welcomed everyone off the boat and treated them kind. After a poisonous snake bit Paul, they saw him as a criminal getting what’s coming to him. When the poison had no effect, they changed their mind again and saw him as a god.

It’s true that things around us will at times cause us to change our minds. People are watching everything we do as Christians and listening to all that we say. The Bible says in Matt. 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

We sure don’t want people to see us as god’s,
but how great would it be if they instead
saw our God in us?

In The Presence Of Them All

August 6
Daily Reading – Job 37-39 / Acts 27:21-44

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Acts 27:35 And when he had thus spoken, he took bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all: and when he had broken it, he began to eat.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Many Christians pray at home around the dinner table. We give thanks for meals at church when we’re enjoying a fellowship. But what about in a restaurant full of people? How about in the Break room at work, or at a class reunion? Do we dare pray in public, even when the people we are with possibly don’t pray?

Today’s verse says Paul; “gave thanks to God in presence of them all.” I’m not saying we need to stand on a table, call everyone’s attention, and scream out a loud prayer. However, we ought never be ashamed to bow our heads, and thank God for His provision for life. After praying in public, I’ve had people stop by my table to say, “we don’t see that much anymore.”

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

  Will you thank God today,
in the presence of them all?

What If They Won’t Listen

August 5
Daily Reading – Job 34-36 / Acts 27:1-20

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Acts 27:10-11 And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives. Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Have you ever felt as though you’re waving a red flag as hard as you can and no one is watching? That you try to warn people of death and hell and they look at you like you’re crazy? Don’t feel alone. In today’s passage Paul tries to warn the people on the ship he’s on that trouble is ahead. Why did they listen to man’s advice over Paul’s advice? Because they didn’t believe Paul’s advice came from God.

There are those who won’t listen to our message of Christ’s love. They just don’t believe our advice comes from God. We can’t make them listen or believe. We can however make their lives a matter of daily prayer. Never give up warning those blinded by the world.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

If one listens, isn’t it worth telling them all?

What’s A Saint To Do?

August 4 – What’s A Saint To Do?
Daily Reading – Job 31 – 33 / Acts 26

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Acts 26:18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

As a Pastor I have often heard the question; “Ok I’m saved, now what?” What are we as Christians supposed to do with our lives. People are normally looking for a step one, step two, and step three kind of answer. However, that’s a good question for us all to answer. What’s a saint of God to do?

Jesus, in speaking to Paul, gave us the answer. We are to help open the eyes of those blinded by Satan and the darkness of sin in this world, to the glorious light of God and the truth of His Word. That they might receive the forgiveness for sin they so desperately need and the inheritance that comes along with being adopted into the family of God by faith in His Son Jesus.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Doesn’t that simplify things a bit?

Let There Be No Proof

August 3
Daily Reading – Job 29-30 / Acts 25

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Acts 25:7 And when he was come, the Jews which came down from Jerusalem stood round about, and laid many and grievous complaints against Paul, which they could not prove.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Paul was accused of many things by those who didn’t like him or what he believed in. However, the facts did not show any proof of the accusations made.

Today there are a lot of people who are making false claims about Christians. The world claims that we hate abortionists. That is not true. What we can’t stand is the sin of abortion and murder. They say we hate drunkards. That is not true. What we are hurt over is the violation of God’s word on the matter. The world thinks we hate homosexuals, drug addicts, prostitutes, etc. Oh how I pray that when the facts are revealed they might find NO PROOF of any such thing. We should find sin sickening, but the sinner loved by God and by us.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Did we forget that we are sinners too?

This I Confess

August 2
Daily Reading – Job 27-28 / Acts 24

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Acts 24:14-15 But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets: And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Has anyone ever put you on the spot and asked you what you believe? Wow, what a deep and diverse answer many might give. However, I think Paul does a good job of answering this in just a few lines. He said, I believe in the written word of God, and believe in a resurrection for all who have ever lived.

Doesn’t that explain what we confess to believe? I believe the word of God. That Jesus, the prophesied Messiah came to pay sins debt for all who will confess their faith in Him. I also believe in a resurrection for all. A resurrection for the just, saved by faith in Christ, unto life eternal. For the unjust, or those who never confessed faith in Christ, unto everlasting punishment.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

This is what I confess to believe.
What about you?
