That’s Not His Desire

December 6
Daily Reading – Ezekiel 41 – 42 / 2 Peter 3

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

There are many theories in the world today of what the Bible says and means. Some go to great lengths to try to prove their conclusions. However, there is what’s called the Golden Rule of Scriptural Interpretation that says, “WHEN THE PLAIN SENSE OF SCRIPTURE MAKES COMMON SENSE, SEEK NO OTHER SENSE.” I just like that. It makes sense.

I find it to be against scripture for someone to tell me that God created some people with the intention of sending them to hell. The last part of 2 Peter 3:9 says that the Lord was; “..not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” Common sense tells us, any means any, and all means all. Not that all will, but He wants them all to.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Empty Vessels

December 5
Daily Reading – Ezekiel 39 – 40 / 2 Peter 2

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

2 Peter 2:17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

There are a lot of people who say they love Jesus, worship God, and are filled with the Holy Spirit today. Great flowery words flow off their fingers to fill pages of Internets social media. They sing Amazing Grace at certain times of the year. Yet nothing in their life ever points to a life lived for Christ. They’re empty vessels, looking pretty outwardly, yet empty inside.

2 Peter 2:17 calls them, “Wells without Water.” Their life is like a cloud in a wind storm, driven by new fads or the news of the day, and not founded on the solid rock of Jesus Christ. Jude 1:12 say’s they’re clouds without water and trees that bear no fruit.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

If we’re filled with God’s Holy Spirit,
shouldn’t the life we live resemble
the words we say we believe?

No Secrets Here!

December 4
Daily Reading – Ezekiel 37 – 38 / 2 Peter 1

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

2 Peter 1:20-21 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Over the years, we have seen books, docudramas, big screen movies, and Websites, geared toward helping you unlock hidden mysteries in the bible. Some claim to have a private code. Some say they’ve found a hidden message. Others will say that they have a private word from God about a segment of the Holy word. The bible tells us to beware of such.

God tells us in 2 Peter, the scriptures have no private interpretation. God’s not trying to keep this a secret. He desires that we share it freely with everyone, that they might see the need for salvation. If you need help with a Bible passage, ask the author, the Holy Spirit for enlightening

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Don’t you think the author would know more
than any man about His own book?

Humbling Honor

December 03
Daily Reading – Ezekiel 34 – 36 / 1 Peter 5

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 Peter 5:6-7 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

When I was younger, I took classes in water rescue. We learned how to go out into deep water and bring someone back to dry ground safely. We were told that the hardest person to rescue is the one who is trying to rescue themselves. The more they splashed and flogged around, the harder it was to help them. However, if we could convince them to trust us and relax, we could then bring them easily and safely in.

Humbling ourselves in the Lord is much the same as the water rescue. Once we realize how much God cares for us and we trust in His mighty and capable hands, then we can rest on Him. Humbling ourselves actually brings honor to God. Allowing Him to lead guide and exalt.

What Happens In A Disaster

December 2
Daily Reading – Ezekiel 31 – 33 / 1 Peter 4

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 Peter 4:7-8 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Over the years we’ve seen disaster upon disaster. There are natural calamities such as earthquakes, hurricanes, fires, and tornadoes. Then to add to our suffering are manmade situations. Gunmen shooting up schools, shopping malls, and churches. Oh the heartbreak when this happens. Yet amazingly we also see the bible played out during times like these.

Genuine love for humanity sets aside divisions. If someone’s hurt in a tragedy, we don’t ask what race, denomination, or political party they’re with. Real love for mankind causes us to forget our differences and makes us want to help.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Isn’t people spending an eternity in hell
a big enough disaster for us to want to
lovingly reach out to rescue those perishing?

God And Good, Are Good

December 1
Daily Reading – Ezekiel 28 – 30 / 1 Peter 3

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 Peter 3:12-13 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

In a world full of rioting and fear, where can we find peace for our soul? When it appears that sin has run rampant and society is against the believer in Christ, how can we find comfort? The answer may be in us.

Today’s verses tell us that if we choose to do good, live a righteous life, and live above the sinfulness of the world, God watches out for us. Good living doesn’t save us from sin; only faith in Christ will do that. However living a good life does save us many heartaches and trials. God is watching and hears us when we pray. The bible says if He hears us, He’ll answer our prayers. God and good, are good.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

I like the question in 1 Peter 3:13

if ye be followers of that which is good?”

What Does God See In You

November 30
Daily Reading – Ezekiel 26 – 27 / 1 Peter 2

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Too often, we hear believers running themselves down. “I’m nobody special, I’m not so great, or I’m not worthy of a blessing.” When looking in a mirror at the reflection of our sinful self, we might have reason to believe that. How wonderful it is that God looks on the heart. So what does He sees when He looks at you?

God sees Christians as chosen people. Not picked last as the only one left, but part of a royal priesthood. He sees us as part of a Holy and peculiar people. Meaning a set apart, and very special people who are able by our life to shew the virtues and excellencies of God. He sees us as someone called out of darkness into the spotlight of His grace and love.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

So if God sees us like that,
how should we see ourselves?

A Gift That Lasts Forever

November 29
Daily Reading – Ezekiel 25 / 1 Peter 1

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 Peter 1:25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

This time of year is all about finding that one perfect gift for the people we know. We want to give them something that they will like, use, enjoy and that will stand the test of time. We even might go so far as to check out the company standing behind the guarantee to see if it will be around if something should go wrong.

My parents gave me what I believe is the greatest of all gifts. They didn’t present it to me at Christmas or a birthday. It was their faith in the word of God and the life they lived by it. The creator of the word is God, and He stands behind all He has said, guaranteed. The word never goes out-of-date and the advice is always relevant to today. It also saved my soul.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

  Go ahead; give gifts,
but might you live as gift as well?

Saved, or Sinner?

November 28
Daily Reading – Ezekiel 23 – 24 / James 5

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

James 5:20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

There has long been a debate by bible scholars as to whom James is referring to in verse 20. Many think he’s speaking of a saved soul who has wandered off into sin, as most of the book is about Christians walking in the light of God’s love and word. If so, the converted would be a saved soul in sin, who has been pointed back to Christ. The death would be a physical death as an ultimate chastisement for unrepentant sin. If, however, the converted soul was that of a lost person, the death would be that of a second or spiritual death and the sin is that of not accepting Christ.

Saved or Sinner, all must be rescued

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

  So here’s a question.
Should it matter to the person doing the converting
how God is using them to save?

What’s On Your Schedule

November 27
Daily Reading – Ezekiel 21 – 22 / James 4

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

James 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Those who know me know I’m a planner. My planner even has a schedule for scheduling next year’s schedule. I love to have plans in place. I read a slogan that said, “Plan your work, then, work your plan.” Even Jesus told the disciples to plan to go to win the world. The Bibles says, we’re to gather on pre-planned days. The children of Israel were told to plan on feast days, etc. So why then does it say not to plan on tomorrow?

There are some for which we can’t plan. We can’t plan for health. We can try to be healthy, yet virus’ and accidents occur even to the healthy. For the most part, we can’t plan a normal life span. That’s up to God. That also means we can’t plan to be saved later. You don’t know if there will be a later.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

  So, are you ready today?
