They Know Not Jesus

June 14
Daily Reading – 1 Chronicles 4 / John 16:1-15

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

John 16:2-3 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Today it would almost appear that everyone knows the scripture. It’s used in movies as part of their scripts. Politicians use it to bolster poll numbers. Even religious hate groups will quote its content trying to use it against the church. The problem is, they may know the words, but they do not know the author.

Jesus warned the disciples in His day that these people were around. He said in John 16:3 “And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.” Well, as it says in Ecclesiastes 1:9, “…there is no new thing under the sun.” How can this be changed? Only if they have a change of heart. Only if they come to know Jesus.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Will you pray for all those
who do not know Him today?

Daily Reading – 1 Chronicles 3 / John 15

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

John 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

What gifts or talents do you have? Are you a singer? Do you work well with your hand? Does administration seem to come to you naturally? Remember, all these talents and gifts were given to you by God. In doing so, God has chosen you out of many to perform certain functions for His kingdom.

When we accept Christ as our Saviour we then have a desire to serve Him. How? By using the gifts and talents He has chosen to give to us. He has ordained you, or set you apart to do something special for the kingdom of God. Now if God has gifted you with a certain ability, He will also empower you in the use of that ability. Go out there and be fruitful for Him.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Are you being a useful steward of your gift?

Comforting Knowledge

June 12
Daily Reading – 1 Chronicles 1-2 / John 14

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

What joy to know you’re never left alone. Jesus said that when He would leave this earth His Father would send another comforter. Jesus was their comforter while on earth, but He knew they would need a full-time round the clock comforter, once He was gone

When we accept Christ as our Saviour we receive this comforter, the Holy Spirit, to reside in us. How long does Jesus say He will be with us? He said He would abide with us forever. No matter where you are, no matter what your situation, we can know the Holy Spirit is with us. We don’t need to pray and call on Him to come; He is ever-present with us.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

  Could there be any more
comforting knowledge than that?

Is It ME?

June 11
Daily Reading – 2 Kings 24-25 / John 13:21-38

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

John 13:21 & 25 When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me…. He then lying on Jesus’ breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

You might think after following Jesus for His earthly ministry the disciples would know in their hearts they loved Him and wouldn’t betray Him. Several times Peter piped up and said, “Not ME! I will follow you wherever you go!” Yet when Jesus said one would betray Him, all the disciples wondered, “Is it ME?”

As believers we know that we love the Lord. We know we have by faith accepted His precious gift of salvation. Yet we must ask as did the disciples, have I betrayed the love of Christ? Can we say we are serving Him, sharing the gospel as commanded, and living for Him, as we should?

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Oh how good to know we serve a loving and forgiving God.
Yet on occasion, we must ask ourselves, “Is It ME?”

Keeping It Clean

June 10
Daily Reading – 2 Kings 21-23 / John 13:1-20

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

John 9:26-27 Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes? He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples?

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Jesus washed the feet of the disciples as an example of how we might live our lives. They lived a bit different back then. When we take a bath, we simply go into the bathroom and jump in the tub or shower. When they would take a bath, they would often walk to the public bathhouse, bathe, and then walk back. When they returned home, they were clean except for their feet, so they’d need to wash their feet.

We as believers have been washed in the blood of Jesus Christ and cleansed of our sin. Nevertheless we walk daily in a sin filled world and pick up particles of sin in our lives. To maintain fellowship with God we must daily come and allow Him to wash off the sins of the world.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Have you been keeping it clean?

They Believed Not

June 9
Daily Reading – 2 Kings 19-20 / John 12:23-50

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

John 12:37 But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

It seems that many people today are chasing the signs and wonders. Whoever puts on the best show is the one who draws the largest crowds. You’d think with the coliseums filled to capacity with people watching such things, most people in the US would be saved. Yet currently sinfulness seems to be worse.

It was the same Jesus’ day. People wanted a sign. Yet, even when Jesus Himself performed miracles, they still didn’t believe on Him. Friend, it’s not the signs and wonders that will change a life. It’s the deep down realization that we’re sinners who need a Saviour. It’s trusting Jesus as the Lamb of God who sacrificed for our sin. It’s placing all our faith on what He did on the cross.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Does the world really need another sign?

His Crime Was LIFE

June 8
Daily Reading – 2 Kings 17-18 / John 12:1-22

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

John 12:10-11 But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death; Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

As we read in John 12, we find the chief priests thought about killing Lazarus. For what? His crime was the fact that when Jesus called to him to come back to life, he obeyed and came back to life. His crime therefore was nothing more than LIFE!

Today many people do not like Christians. Why is that? It’s because when we heard the voice of the Saviour calling to our soul to be saved and receive life, we obeyed the call and received eternal life. Many of us have gone another step beyond. Some of us have tried to help others find real life as well. Our greatest crime is loving LIFE.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

If that was the charge against you today,
would you be found guilty?

Still Trying To Kill Jesus

June 7
Daily Reading – 2 Kings 15-16 / John 11:38-57

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

John 11:53 Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

It may be shocking to think that men would get together and plot to kill the very Son of God. Just the thought of it seems wrong. Yet we read that they did.

It may seem even more unimaginable to think men today are still plotting to try to kill Jesus. Maybe not physically, but it’s assassination just the same. How, you might ask. Well the bible says in John 1:1 Jesus was and is the word of God. Today we have people everywhere trying to disprove or at least discredit the word of God. When they do, they’re attempting to kill the power of the word. We know that they’ll also fail, as the bible says in Luke 21:33 “Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.”

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Isn’t it good to know, Jesus never fails?

But I Know…

June 6
Daily Reading – 2 Kings 13-14 / John 11:1-37

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

John 11:21-22 Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Oh how death in a family will cause a flood of emotions in people’s hearts. Some will turn from God, blaming Him for the death of a loved one. Thinking, a loving God would have stopped this. However, we forget, death is part of the curse humanity brought upon themselves. God’s original intention was for us not to die. Sin brought this ugly phenomenon to earth.

While some turn from God, yet others turn to Him. Martha in our passage says, “But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.” She said, “Even now,” meaning even in death our most horrible advisory, Jesus, I believe in you. Jesus still is working to bring about earthly and eternal life. Martha said “But I Know.”

Eternal And Never

June 5
Daily Reading – 2 Kings 11-12 / John 10:22-42

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

John 10:27-28 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Jesus said that He is the way of salvation. His love for man was displayed in the same way that we see God the Father displaying His love. When God loves, God gives. (Check out John 3:16.) Jesus said; “And I give unto them eternal life.” What a blessed promise and gift. Then, to make sure He was clear about what eternal meant He said; “and they shall never perish.”

I’m so glad that Jesus made it so clear as to what happens with His sheep. When we enter the sheepfold of Christ, we’re given eternal life, and He said we shall never perish. We will be disciplined at times. However, we can’t run away, and no one can take us away from God. NO One!

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Doesn’t Eternal and Never sound like
great words when they come from Christ?
