Is Your Name Written Down?

April 13
Daily Reading – Joshua 23-24 / Luke 10:1-24

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Luke 10:20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Luke 10:1 says Jesus sent out 70 disciples to let people know He was coming. To validate who they were and who sent them He gave them powers to cast out demons and heal the sick. Their purpose, as is ours today, was to tell people of Jesus’ soon coming.

When they got back all they could talk about was the demons running from them. In Luke 10:20 Jesus says, don’t be so surprised demons flee from you. I gave you that power when you left. If you want to marvel at something, rejoice that your name is written in the book of life. That’s truly the bigger miracle. People get all excited over signs and wonders, when the greatest miracle of all time is the fact that Jesus saved us from our sin, and our name is written down in the Heaven.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Fear Not

April 12
Daily Reading – Joshua 22 / Luke 9:46-62

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Luke 9:56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Sadly, many people live in fear of God. They think of God as vengeful. As though He’s sitting in heaven waiting to punish people for every little thing they do wrong. Think about that for a second. If God wanted to hurt us for our sins, couldn’t He have done that any day of the week? Truthfully, most of us unwittingly or willingly violate God’s law and sin against Him often. We shouldn’t want to sin, but we live in a sin filled world. If God really wanted to get us, He could.

Today’s verse tells us more about who God really is. He’s not out to destroy us, but to save us. Save us eternally from hell, and also from sin, self and Satan.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Listen, can’t you almost hear Him saying FEAR NOT,
you serve a loving God, not a vengeful God?

Shame Shame

April 11
Daily Reading – Joshua 20-21 / Luke 9:22-45

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Luke 9:26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the holy angels.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Some people act as if they’re better than everyone else. They walk around with their nose in the air and look down on all those around them. You know that person, right? Now imagine you’re about to marry this person and that’s how they treat you. Everyone around you can see how terribly they treat you. How embarrassing. Truth is, most people will feel badly for you and dislike them for their attitude. The shame they meant for you, turns around to be a shame on them.

Jesus said if you’re ashamed of me before your friends, you’ll cause me to be embarrassed for you in front of my Father and the angels. Our vanity, ego and pride on earth, turns to become humiliation in heaven. Jesus wants to show us off as a bride who completely adores Him, not be embarrassed for our arrogance.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

How will Jesus feel about you on that day?

Enough For Today

April 10
Daily Reading – Joshua 18-19 / Luke 9:1-21

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Luke 9:17 And they did eat, and were all filled: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

For the most part, people are planners. I must admit, I’m a planner too. I plan everything. At this stage of life I’m thinking of plans for the day I leave this world to be with the Lord. I don’t want my departure to be a burden on those I leave behind. The Bible encourages us to plan and prepare. However, there are times that we need to be happy with what God provided today.

Jesus does not always promise to tell us what lies ahead. He does however say He will never leave us nor forsake us. We may not always see His hand of provisions for the weeks and months ahead, but He always seems to provide enough for today, and most often a little extra.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Could it be we plan to far ahead of God sometimes
and miss the blessing of today?

Giggle All You Want

April 9
Daily Reading – Joshua 15-17 / Luke 8:40-56

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Luke 8:53-55 And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise. And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

People love to laugh. However, occasionally people laugh at what they don’t understand. We as believers are sometimes laughed at for our walk with God. When we give our tithe, stop to pray, and live our lives by faith, those who do not enjoy the indwelling of the Holy Spirit don’t understand, so they may laugh.

They laughed at Jesus too when He said, “weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth.” Why did they laugh? Because they didn’t understand the power God has even over our most serious enemy, death. There will be a day when all the laughing stops. Until then, we must keep trusting our Lord, and winning others to Christ. They may giggle, but Christ is all in all.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Can you find joy in Jesus in the midst of the giggles?

The Seed

April 8
Daily Reading – Joshua 12-14 / Luke 8:1-39

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Luke 8:11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

It’s that time of year when most people begin to plan what their garden and landscaping will look like. At least what we hope it will look like. Once we plan, we then have to plant the seeds. However, you can’t just plant any seed and hope to grow a petunia. You must purchase petunia seed, put it in good soil, and plant them as instructed in order to grow healthy petunias.

Many people today believe people are just going to somehow get saved. That they’ll somehow go to heaven when they die. However, if you want to see the life of Christ in a person you need to first plant the right seed. Our verse today says the seed that Jesus spoke of which brought about real eternal life is the word of God. Some things never change. God’s word is one of them.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

What are you planting this year?

A Little Or A Lot

April 7
Daily Reading – Joshua 10-11 / Luke 7:30-50

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Luke 7:47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

How much do we love God? According to today’s passage in Luke, it may depend on how much we think we were forgiven. If we think we’re not that bad and that God only had to forgive just a little bit of sin to save us, we may only love God a little. However, if we ever get the true picture of the sinfulness of our soul, when God through the precious blood of His Son, washed away our sins, we will love Him a lot. We must remember, at our best we are as filthy rags before the perfect righteousness of a Holy God.

Imagine a pure white shirt. Now spill gravy on just one spot. What shows up, the clean shirt or the spot? It’s the filthiness of the spot that gets the attention. Is the shirt now clean or dirty? It takes very little sin for us to be totally filthy.

A Look Toward The Future

April 6
Daily Reading – Joshua 7-9 / Luke 7:1-29

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Luke 7:28 For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

John the Baptist was by far one of the greatest prophets who ever lived. Maybe not in the magnitude of prophecies that he shared, but in the clarity of his purpose of foretelling Jesus’ coming and his direct connection with Christ, he by far outshines them all.

Jesus however said the least of those in the kingdom of God would be greater than John. How could this be? Well, as close as John was to Jesus, a believer today is just as close with the Holy Spirit residing in them. As to the clarity of Christ’s purpose, we now have the entire word of God to see the beginning and the end, which John did not have. We can say with surety what John said back then. “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”

Do You Want Good Fruit?

April 5
Daily Reading – Joshua 6 / Luke 6:20-49

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Luke 6:43-44 For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

There are two ways to read today’s verses.

The first has to do with where you gather your fruit. If you want good fruit in your life, you gather it where good fruit is produced. By associating with the right people, going to the right places, and reading the right literature. Good fruit does not come from corrupt trees.

The second is, what kind of fruit are you producing in the lives of others? A good tree will produce good fruit. It does not bring forth corrupt fruit. Everyone is known by the fruit they produce.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

If someone were to take the first part of this devotion to heart,
would they see your fruit as good or corrupt?

What To Do Today

April 4
Daily Reading – Joshua 4-5 / Luke 6:1-19

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Luke 6:9 Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Jesus said; “I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?” This is a good rule of thumb everyday for all of us who know Christ as our Saviour.

What will you do with today? Will you do good or evil. Will you live a life to glorify God or to elevates self and the world? How we answer the second part of the question may depend on how we answer the first part. Whether we save a life, or destroy it. See if we live a life to glorify God, people who are watching us will then see God in us. It may save their life eternally if they see in us something different from the world. However, if they see the same in us as they do in the world, why would they turn to Christ? It may very well destroy them eternally.
