January 7 – It’s Special!

It’s Special!

Daily Reading  –  Genesis 15-17 / Matthew 6:1-15

Matthew 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

”Hallowed be thy Name.” The term Hallowed is not one we use too often today. However, Hallowed is so important in this prayer. You see God’s name is special. Hallowed means set apart from all others, Holy, Sanctified, or Pure. It’s not like Frank or George. It’s Special. It says in the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20:7, “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.” In essence He was saying, My Name is Special, treat it so.

Sadly today we all too often here people use Jesus, Oh God, or Christ, as part of comments that have nothing to do with Him.

How can we Hallow His name in our Heart?
How might we help others do the same?

It’s An Earth Thing

Daily Reading  –  Genesis 12 – 14 / Matthew 5

Matthew 5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

Some things happen to both born-again and the lost, and there’s nothing we can do to change that. As our verse says, when the sun shines, it shines on everyone. When the rains pour, everybody gets wet. When the winds blow, floods come, and snow falls, we all are subject to it. So it is with other things as well. We all get old, all face illness, and all must die.

My friend, it’s an earth thing. While here, we chose what happens in life to come. The saved have chosen Christ and therefore life with Him where these things are done away. The lost by default choose torment.

What choice have you made for the life to come?

His Words Are POWERFUL

Daily Reading  –  Genesis 10 – 11 / Matthew 4:18-25

Matthew 4:19-20 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.

In our passage today, we find Jesus simply saying, “follow me,” and people immediately followed Him. No fancy speeches. No gifts or gimmicks. They simply realized He was Jesus, left everything immediately, and followed Him.

I am not criticizing new methods of attracting people to church or Christian programs. With all the distractions out there today we often need to get their attention somehow. However, once we have their attention, it might be better to share the powerful words of Jesus instead of putting on a fancy show.

How can we share the plain powerful words of Jesus?

January 4 – Gloom and Doom!

Gloom and Doom!

Daily Reading  –  Genesis 8 – 9 / Matthew 4:1-17

Matthew 4:16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

Winters have always been a gloomy time in Michigan. It seems as if the sun just goes behind the clouds and hibernates until spring. Many people get feelings of depression and weariness because of this lack of sun. This is the picture we are to get from the phrase, “shadow of death.” Standing in a shadow is caused by something coming between the sun and us. How gloomy it is to stand in the shadow of death.
When Jesus steps into their life it says, “light is sprung up.” As the sun is refreshing on a gloom filled day, the SON is also refreshing on a doom filled life.
How might we let our light so shine and glorify God today?

January 3 – Straight Is The Way.

Straight Is The Way.

Daily Reading  –  Genesis 6 – 7 / Matthew 3

Matthew 3:3  For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

The term “make his paths straight” comes from Isaiah 40:3. In those days when a King traveled, there would be those who went before him clearing out rocks and debris and leveling the roadways to make his travels smooth and trouble free. John the Baptist had a task to perform. To prepare a spiritual road for Christ.

Today there are many obsticles blocking peoples pathway to Christ. False religions, sinful lifestyles, vises of many natures, and more. We as believers also need to make a clear path for the King of kings into the hearts of man.

What can we do to “make his paths straight” into the hearts of man today?

January 2 – What Do You Call Him?

LIHW3   BACK TO LIHW HOMEPAGE

What Do You Call Him?

Daily Reading  –  Genesis 3 – 5 / Matthew 2

Matthew 2:23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.

In Matthew 2:15 it says Jesus was called out of Egypt. Egypt has long been a biblical picture of the world. We find here that Jesus gave a great example to all humanity. As did Israel, Jesus came out of Egypt, a picture of coming out of the world or worldliness.

In verse 23 it says He was called a Nazarene. The people of Nazareth were not looked on fondly. To be called a Nazarene was a sign of contempt. Christians too are often unfairly labeled and are called names by the world after accepting Christ.

It really matters not what the world calls Jesus. The most important question is, what do you call Him?

The Saviour Is Foretold

Daily Reading  –  Genesis 1 – 2 / Matthew 1

Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Matthew 1:21 was a fulfillment of prophecies from hundreds of years in the past. Now think for a second, this prophecy was to be fulfilled that year for Joseph. Never mind thousands of years of prophecy; this mattered to him that day.

I can tell you for years, “Don’t put your hand in a flame.” It really won’t matter much until you’re faced with an open flame and a choice. The stories of Jesus won’t matter much either unless you realize you’re the one He came to save from their sin. The birth of Jesus still makes a difference today.

So how does the birth of Jesus matter to you today? Or does it?

Wednesday, December 31, 2014 – A child of the KING!

LIHW3   BACK TO LIHW HOMEPAGE

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 31:4-6 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted. Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

In church we sing a song; “I’m a Child of the King, A Child of the King, with Jesus My Saviour I’m a Child of the King.” Children of the king are called Prince or Princess. Tonight millions of people all over the world will be ushering in the New Year with many festivities. A lot of them include alcohol. Sadly, many drinking at those parties will include church members.

The Bible says Children of the King, a prince or princess, should not drink. Why, “Lest they drink, and forget the law.” This is not just the law of man, but also the law of God. I can hear some of you now; “we’re not under the law,” and you’re right. However, when you were saved you were saying, I love you God and will obey your commandments. We should obey the law of God now not because of the law, but because of our love for the lawgiver, God.

Our test also says we might, “pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.” In other words, ruin our testimony. In one night, we can ruin our testimony for the rest of the next year. They see us doing as they do and think, “Do I need their God? I’m just like them.”

Who should use alcohol? The medical professionals of that time used it to relieve the pain of death in some, and those with heavy hearts. (Heavy hearts are not the lonely and sad for those of you who thought here is my excuse to get plowed.) The Hebrew definition for “heavy hearts” is “Bitter of Soul.” Should a Christian be Bitter of Soul? NO. The Bible says rejoice in the Lord always. Celebrate Christ, your Salvation.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

As this day draws to an end and one more years slips away, let’s not let Satan steal our testimony we tried all year to convey to our lost friends. Stand Up for Jesus. Leave the Alcohol to the lost. Act like royalty. Let’s LIVE FOR CHRIST. Have a safe and Happy New Year.

Tuesday, December 30, 2014 – God takes pleasure in you!

LIHW3   BACK TO LIHW HOMEPAGE

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 149:4 For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Way too often people get the misguided idea God is some big bully in the sky waiting to pounce on us when we disobey in the least of what we consider is sin. Although it’s true God cannot tolerate sin, it’s also true He is a patient and loving God. Just as a loving father would be overjoyed if one of his children, who made an error in judgment, saw the error and did what was necessary to make it right without being told, so God also finds happiness in us when we do what is right without being told. God finds pleasure in His children who truly love Him. He enjoys them and takes pleasure in providing for their well-being and their needs.

I find it comforting to know, God does not find pain and disgust with us. What a great joy it is also to think He finds pleasure in us. He will also beautify the humble of heart with salvation. This is a picture of what God is doing and will do for His children. What does it mean that God beautifies the meek? Well, picture if you will how you might beautify a doll or a child by dressing them in nice attire. How during the Christmas Season many beautify a tree by placing pretty ornaments on it. In the same way, God beautifies us when He cloths us in His righteousness. He will adorn us, or place upon us the righteousness of His Son Jesus Christ. In other words, He gives us His best, His Son, Jesus Christ.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

God has given to us His best, His only begotten Son Jesus Christ for salvation. He finds great pleasure in us and loves us. Should we not do the same? Can we show Him love and adoration as we share His love with others at the end of this year? As God finds pleasure in us, let’s find pleasure in serving Him.

Monday, December 29, 2014 – How Busy Are You?

LIHW3     BACK TO LIHW HOMEPAGE

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Ester 6:1 On that night could not the king sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Have you ever woke up in the middle of the night and found yourself unable to get to sleep? You’ve counted sheep until you hate the wooly little creatures for no reason. Maybe you have counted until you have just run out of numbers. You’ve tried to think of a peaceful place and the quietness keeps you awake. It’s too late in the night to take a sleeping pill, as you’ll be groggy all morning. It’s way too early to wake someone else in the house to talk with. TV has nothing but infomercials, reruns and junk. What should you do? Do as the king did in Ester 6:1. Get out your Bible and begin to read it. It might very well be God is trying to get your attention.

We are so busy during the day with work, family, friends, and chores. Time to get alone with God may seem to have just slipped by before you knew it. Now things are quiet and peaceful and God is saying… “Let’s talk a bit.” I have found some of my most intimate times with God are early in the morning. I read a bit and pray a bit. I speak to Him and then read and let Him speak to me. You may wonder if I’m tired the rest of the day. Well sometimes, however it seems God gives me the energy and alertness to get through my day. Then guess what? The next night I usually sleep really well.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Spend time with God on a regular basis. As you’re making those New Year’s Resolutions, resolve to set aside a time every single day to be alone with God. I promise it will become one of your favorite times of the day. You will not be sorry.
