Are We Shutting God Out?

December 16
Daily Reading – Hosea 1 – 6 / Revelation 3

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Many have read today’s verse as God knocking at the heart door of the lost soul. While it’s true, He does call all to repentance, this verse is in a chapter talking to the churches. How sad to imagine Christ knocking at the door of His own church to gain entrance.

Sadly, many churches today are filled with worldly pleasures. Attempting to bring in the masses to fund the programs, some have allowed an unsaved world to dictate that the church should be run more as a business than a body. The pleasures of the world may bring temporary pleasure, but it leaves us indifferent toward God’s lasting fulfillment.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

If we find ourselves indifferent toward
church, God, prayer, and the bible,
is it possible we’re closing a door on God?

He Knows You Church

December 15
Daily Reading – Daniel 11 – 12 / Revelation 2

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Revelation 2:2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Today, with all that is happening in the world, it might be easy to begin to think that God does not care. That He’s not watching and seeing what is going on. Yet, as we read the second and third chapters of the Book of the Revelation of John, to each church God says these words. “I know thy works.”

If God knows us, then we also know God’s watching us. That has two implications. It means He’s watching as the world does horrible things contrary to His word. He’s also watching as the church of the Living God sits back and does little to stand against it. When God says “I know you,” He means He knows every tiny detail about you, including the thoughts of our hearts

Was, Is, Will Always Be

December 14
Daily Reading – Daniel 9 – 10 / Revelation 1

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Revelation 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

It’s hard for us to try to wrap our minds around the idea of forever. Everything we know of has had a beginning somewhere and will at some time come to an end. Everyone from all faiths and no faith agree that even things like the stars, planets, wind and rain, all began somewhere. So, eternity is hard to imagine.

When God says He’s the beginning and end, He’s not saying that He had a beginning, nor someday will end. He’s referring to the fact that He was here when creation began, He’s alive and well today, and He’ll always be around no matter what happens on earth. He’s the Almighty. He’s in control. He’s guiding history to Christ’s final victory over all.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Doesn’t that comfort you to know
He was, Is, and will always be?

He’s Got You

December 13
Daily Reading – Daniel 7 – 8 / Jude

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Jude 1:24-25 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

It’s always good to know that someone is looking out for you. A phrase used by many people today when they are supporting your decisions in life is, “I’ve got your back.” Meaning, I’m here for you.

While it is great to have the support of man, there’s an even greater peace knowing Christ is in our corner. Jude ends his letter telling us about our God and saying, “He’s got you.” He says God’s able to keep us from falling. Not that we won’t stumble in life, but that God is there to assure us, no matter the situation, ultimately, we are going to be ok. He’s going to present us faultless for His own joy before God the Father.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Isn’t it wonderful to know that
God is watching out for you every day of your life,
for your whole life?

Somebody Told On You

December 12
Daily Reading – Daniel 5 – 6 / 3 John

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

3 John 1:5-6 Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers; Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

When I was a little boy I was told, “Nobody likes a tattle tale.” However, over the years I have come to find out, that is not always true. I guess some of that may depend on what we give the tattle tale to tell.

John said in 3 John verse 5 people were talking about the love these people had shown not only to the church, but to strangers they didn’t even know. In other words, they had shown the love of God to so many people that they had kind of been branded as nice people. John said, that’s a good thing, you do well.

If someone is tattling on you, telling people about you, branding you as something, what is it that they’re saying?

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Love Begets Love

December 11
Daily Reading – Daniel 3 – 4 / 2 John

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

2 John 1:6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Today’s verse kind of takes you in a circle. Yet, it’s a good circle in which to be.

What is Love? Well John tells us. It is to keep God’s commandment. OK then I guess we need to know what is God’s commandment? In the verse before this one John told us. 2 John 1:5 “And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.” God has said we’re to show love to all people. However, in 2 John, John was talking to the church and the “one another” would have been the people of that church. So then, to love God we need to love His church. When we love God by loving His church, He loves us.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Praying With Confidence

December 10
Daily Reading – Daniel 1 – 2 / 1 John 5

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 John 5:14-15 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Would you like to know your prayers are going to be answered? Well, the answer for most people would be a resounding, “yes.” Is it possible? The answer again is, “yes.” OK, now you want to know how, right?

The key to praying with confidence is praying things God already wants to do. Verse 14 says “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:” To ask things according to His will, we need to stay in His word daily, allowing the Holy Spirit to show us His will. Then, when we ask God to do what He already wants to do, he hears us and says, “what a great idea!” When our prayers match the desires of God’s heart, great things happen.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

  Are you praying with confidence?

All Because Of Him

December 9
Daily Reading – Ezekiel 47 – 48 / 1 John 4

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 John 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

When exactly was it that God fell in love with you? Maybe you’re like many of us who were saved later in life. As you look back over your sinful life you have to wonder, what about me could God have loved at all? He surely couldn’t have loved my sinfulness.

Some think God began to love them after they asked for forgiveness of sin. That once we are cleansed by the blood, then God begins to love us. Yet, if that were true, if God didn’t love the sinful you, why would He send Jesus to die for us as sinners? The truth is, God has always loved you. The bible says in Romans 5:8 “… while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” The reason we can love Him is simply because He first showed His love to us.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Isn’t it good to know that the God who hates sin,
has always loved the sinner?

I Don’t Feel It

December 8
Daily Reading – Ezekiel 45 – 46 / 1 John 2:18 – 3

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 John 3:19-21 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

I’ll admit, when I gave my life to God and accepted Jesus as my Saviour, I felt wonderful. The sin and burden in my life was lifted and I was free to live again. I also must admit that since that day, there have been days when I didn’t feel saved. At times, the Holy Spirit brings to light parts of my life that need to change, which before, I didn’t realize. When I’d see it, I felt unfit and maybe even unsaved. I just didn’t feel it that day.

How wonderful to know that my salvation is not about my feelings, but about the fact that Jesus died for me. I’m saved by faith in Him, not feelings about me. Today’s verse says, “For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart.” God knows if we are saved.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Isn’t it great to know salvation is fact, not feeling?

His Mercy Endureth Forever

December 7
Daily Reading – Ezekiel 43 – 44 / 1 John 1 – 2:17

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 John 1:8-10 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Throughout the Old Testament we read the phase, “His mercy endureth forever.” However, when we get to the New Testament that stops and we never read those words in that way again. Yet we still see it.

1 John 1:8-10 describe the mercy of God enduring forever. We can’t say as believers we never sin. If we do, we are deceiving ourselves as it says in verse 8, or calling God a liar as it says in verse 10. Yet in verse 9 it says that God will be “faithful and just to forgive us our sins” if we will confess we’ve sinned with a true repentant heart. Faithful, means He will always do so. Just, means He will treat everyone the same. If that’s not the mercy of God enduring forever, I don’t know what is.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

How will you treat His enduring mercy?
