You Can’t Have It Both Ways

August 21
Daily Reading – Psalms 52-57 / Romans 11:1-12

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Romans 11:6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Oh, the grace of God, isn’t it wonderful? I love Ephesians 2:8 where it says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:” It’s by the grace of God that we are saved. Our part is simply to apply our God-given faith in the person of Jesus, who paid it all. When we apply our faith to God’s grace, we receive His gift, salvation.

Romans 11:6 says we can either believe in grace or in works. If we believe in works, then we can’t really call it grace. If we believe in grace, we can’t really call it works. You can’t have it both ways. If you believe in works, you miss the grace of God. I love His Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Shouldn’t we all just stop and say
thanks for His grace right now?

No Secret Agents

August 20
Daily Reading – Psalms 48-51 / Romans 10

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Romans 10:10-11 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Where is everyone? I ask that question on many Sundays and Wednesdays. I realize people go on vacation and get sick, but where are they the rest of the time? I ask myself when elections roll around, and I see the most unbiblical example leadership elected, where are the Christians? I wonder when it’s time to go out on visitation and soul winning, why has no one showed up to go? I ask because the bible says if we believe on Him, we should “not be ashamed.”

I have an Evangelist friend who said it this way. God doesn’t have “Secret Agents.” The world should know we’re saved. Jesus openly died for us. He will return some day for the church.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Will the Lord find the Bride of Christ
ashamed of their groom, King Jesus?

I’m Just Too… PERFECT!

August 19
Daily Reading – Psalms 42-47 / Romans 9

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Romans 9:20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

People today are trying so hard to be something they were not created to be. People complain, my ears are too big, my lips are too thin, I’m too fat, or, too thin. It’s a never-ending cry of I’m too something that I don’t like. So let me ask you, what are you comparing yourself to, another person? You were not created to be that person. God created you exactly as He desired.

“Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?” God created you perfect, even with all your supposed flaws or disabilities. He loves you as you are. Quit trying to be something other than who God created you to be. Be all you can be for Him.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Will you look in the mirror and say,
“I’m created too PERFECT to mess God’s creation up?”

My Daddy Is Bigger

August 18
Daily Reading – Psalms 38-41 / Romans 8:26-39

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Romans 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Remember the kids saying; “my daddy’s bigger than your daddy?” Children would tell of all the almost superhuman things their daddy could do. Once that child finished, the next one would top it until the stories became outrageous. Some claiming their daddy could lift cars or fly through the air. Just silliness. Or is it?

Romans 8:31 says; “…If God be for us, who can be against us?” As Christians, our Heavenly Father loves us more than we can possibly imagine. No matter how big our huge situation or trial is, our God is bigger. For Christians, this present world is a bad as it gets for us. Eternity with Him will be so great. Oh, and by the way, My Heavenly Father can lift cars and He can fly!

Someone’s Knocking

August 17
Daily Reading – Psalms 36-37 / Romans 8:1-25

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Romans 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

How can I know that I am saved? I’ve had many people over the years ask me that question. While there are several answers, and many of them correct, I believe Romans 8:16 gives us a very clear answer. It says; “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:” In other words, God will let you know. He knocks at our hearts door.

Whenever my children were disobedient, I would discipline them. When they did something well, I would compliment them. The Holy Spirit does much the same thing in our hearts after we receive Christ. When we sin, The Spirit bears witness. He lets us know. When we are good He also encourages us.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

  So, has someone been knocking
at your hearts door?

A Child Is Born

August 16
Daily Reading – Psalms 34-35 / Romans 7

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Romans 7:4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Time and again we’ve seen a couple meet, fall in love, marry, and not long after, they’re announcing a new life in their home. A child is born from their love and relationship. God’s word calls that being fruitful. After the flood, God told Noah’s family Genesis 9:1b“Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.”

When we accepted Christ as Saviour, we became part of the Bride of Christ. Paul said here in Romans 7:4 we are dead to the law and married to Christ. He then adds, “that we should bring forth fruit unto God.” He’s talking about us reproducing ourselves. How? By sharing the gospel with others and winning them to Christ.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Shouldn’t our love relationship with the Lord
cause us to be fruitful and reproduce too?

My Want To Changed

August 15
Daily Reading – Psalms 31-33 / Romans 6

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Romans 6:15-16 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

I remember meeting with the pulpit committee of the church I currently pastor. One man, concerned with my beliefs asked, “Do you believe in once saved always saved?” I said, “I sure do.” He said, “You mean to tell me you think you can get saved and live any way you want to?” I said, “Yup!” His mouth almost hit the floor. Then I added, “I believe you can live any way you want to, but I also believe that your “Want To” changes when you get saved.” (P. S. That man is one of my best friends and deacon today.

Paul was asking the church, should we sin because we are not under the law? His answer, “God forbid.” Why not, because our “Want To” has changed.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

  Do you remember the day
your “Want To” changed?

Still Not Good Enough

August 14
Daily Reading – Psalms 25-30 / Romans 5

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

I meet people all the time who somehow believe they need to clean up their lives before they can be saved. They think they have to quit drinking, smoking, drugs, cussing, or something before God would accept them. Even worse are those who accept Christ as Saviour, and then try to work to keep themselves saved. Hey folks, we will never be good enough to be saved.

What a joy to know that in Romans 5 it says God loved us so much, that even while we were still in our sin, Christ died for us. Once we accept Christ, then God begins the cleansing process. I like the fishing analogy I heard about winning people to the Lord. It went; “we catch them, God cleans them.”

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

I’m so glad we don’t have to
pre-qualify people, aren’t you?

Will You Believe It?

August 13
Daily Reading – Psalms 21-24 / Romans 4

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Romans 4:20-22 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

When I was little, we would play a kind of silly game. We would place a bat, tip on the ground, standing up with the handle toward the sky. Next we would place our forehead on the bat handle and then spin around and around, then let go and try to walk. Needless to say we were dizzy and staggering everywhere. We had no control of it until the dizziness wore off.

Many people today are living dizzy lives. They run round and round in circles from one quick fix in life to another. Then wonder why their life is staggering back and forth. If God is the center of our life, and we make Him the answer to life’s situations, the staggering will stop. Abraham staggered not at the promises of God.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

  Will you believe it,
that this faith will work for you?

Faith Plus NOTHING!

August 12 – Faith Plus NOTHING!
Daily Reading – Psalms 18-20 / Romans 3

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Romans 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

In an Evangelistic service, during the invitation, the Evangelist gave a clear presentation of the Gospel. From the pulpit he lead people in a prayer that if said from the heart to God was accepting by faith Christ as Saviour. When finished he asked those who prayed that prayer to come forward. Some did, some didn’t.

I was invited later to visit a man who was there. In our conversation he said he wanted to be saved. He believed Christ died for him and His blood paid the price for his sin. He said, “I prayed with the Evangelist, but I’m nervous in crowds and didn’t walk forward.” He feared since he didn’t come forward, he wasn’t saved. Oh, what joy to share that salvation wasn’t by his deeds, works, or walks, it’s by his faith. I later baptized this man.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Aren’t you glad we don’t earn salvation?
