Daily Reading – Psalms 146-150 / 1 Corinthians 16
WHAT GOD HAS SAID:
1 Corinthians 16:13-14 Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong. Let all your things be done with charity.
WHAT I HAVE SEEN:
In today’s verses we find God’s desire for the church. However, there’s a phrase found only once in the New Testament that we don’t use anymore. “Quit you like men.” Some may think at first reading Paul’s saying, quit acting like men. Actually, it is just the opposite.
When I was young and would do something my mom wanted me to stop doing, she would say, “Quit it, just cut it out.” My mom may not have known it, but she helped me understand what God was saying here. Quit means to be cut out. Paul is saying be cut out like a man, be brave and bold. We’re told to watch for spiritual attacks, stand fast on God’s word, be brave, bold and strong, and do it all with love.
WHAT DO YOU SAY:
Will you, “Cut It Out.”
Will you be brave and bold for the Lord?
