Do I Always Please Him?

May 31
Daily Reading – 1 Kings 22 / John 8:12-30

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

John 8:29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

As a boy growing up I was… well let’s just say not always the best son. Naughty was a word that I seemed to hear a lot. As I grew into my teens, the word changed from naughty to mischievous. Then as a young adult, I was called a troubled man. In all these ways, I can say it did not please my earthly father.

Then I accepted Christ as my Saviour. My earthly dad was so happy to see that day, as was my new Heavenly Father. Some old friends called me a faker. They soon saw I wasn’t faking. Now by most I’m called a Christian. What a title of honor and responsibility. I can’t say I’m perfect or always do things that please God, but I’m trying and that’s my desire.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Who do you desire to please,
Self, Satan or the Saviour?

When Will It Ever Stop

May 30
Daily Reading – 1 Kings 21 / John 8:1-11

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

John 8:6-7 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

There are many lessons to learn from this passage. One catching my attention is how these men who bring this woman to Jesus made nonstop accusations against her. It say’s Jesus acted as if He was ignoring them and stooped down to write on the ground, yet they just went on and on, asking over and over. I wonder if Jesus thought, “When will it ever stop?”

You need to know in life, you’ll always have the accusers. Someone trying to hinder your walk with God and destroy your testimony. If you’ve truly repented of something and asked God to forgive you, believe that He has. Turn to 1 John 1:9, read it, and believe it.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Why do we worry more about man’s destruction
than God’s construction of our lives?

Division

May 29
Daily Reading – 1 Kings 19-20 / John 7:37-53

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

John 7:43 So there was a division among the people because of him.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Throughout history, the name of Jesus has caused division. In Micah 7:6, it says that families would be divided because of Him. In Matthew 10:35-36 Jesus said when you decide to follow me there will be divisions among family and friends. Divisions.

Jesus actually doesn’t want families divided. However, when God created us with the freedom of choice, it was inevitable that some would choose to follow Christ and His gospel while others would not. Today nothing has changed. Solomon said it best in Ecclesiastes when he said; “there is no new thing under the sun.” Parents are heartbroken over children who don’t follow Christ, as are some children for their parents. Yet we must never give up in sharing the gospel.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Won’t a Right Decision still stop Division?

What’s The Right Thing To Do

May 28
Daily Reading – 1 Kings 17-18 / John 7:1-36

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

John 7:23-24 If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day? Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

The Jewish religious leaders were angry with Jesus. Their anger stemmed from the fact that Jesus had worked on the Sabbath day by healing someone. According to them, you were not to do any type of work on the Sabbath Day. Jesus points out that they also work on the Sabbath day by fulfilling the law of circumcision. Then He said, don’t judge the work, judge what is the right thing to do.

We are often too quick to judge others. We make determinations on what we see and may not know all the details behind what’s happening.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Might we all be happier if we began to
look at people with love instead of doubt?

The Fountain Of Life

May 27
Daily Reading – 1 Kings 14-16 / John 6:60-71

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Ponce de Leon is remembered for his search for the fountain of youth. Although he is credited with finding Florida, the explorer never found a fountain of youth. Others have searched for such a fountain. It’s said that Alexander the Great also claimed to have found a “River of Healing” in the fourth century. Many such claims have come from all over the world. Even today, some are still searching for this miracle body of water.

Jesus said, the words He spoke and the Spirit of God brings eternal life. The real fountain of healing and life are the words that spring forth from the Word of God. It’s that Living Water also mentioned in John 7:38 that should flow through you.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Will you share the Living Water
that brings real LIFE with a friend?

Now Or Later

May 26
Daily Reading – 1 Kings 12-13 / John 6:22-59

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

John 6:26-27 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Things! People want things they can see, and hold. It’s hard to show off a belief, but a boat is another story. It’s always been this way. It’s often the reason people miss heaven. They only want things they can see God giving to them. Things like money, homes, cars, and the like. When they feel that God is not giving them what they want they feel they don’t need Him.

Jesus warned of this attitude in John 6:26 & 27. He said, you only come to me for the food. He went on to say, don’t work so hard for things you can see, for they will perish. Today we too often are consumed with the NOW and forget to thank and praise Him for the LATER.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Can you put aside the NOW for today
and just thank God for the LATER He has promised?

What Would You Have Said?

May 25
Daily Reading – 1 Kings 10-11 / John 6:1-21

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

John 6:5-6 When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat? And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Imagine if you will, you just received a call and were told that tonight 100 people were coming over for dinner. You’re at work and don’t have the time to purchase groceries, let alone prepare enough food for 100 people. What would you have said to the caller?

In John 6, Jesus knew this was a great teachable moment in the lives of the disciples. Philip did what most of us would do. We would look at what we have and determine if it’s possible. What Philip forgot was He had the Son of God there to help him. With God, even what may seem impossible is possible. We too often forget in our trying times that this very same God is on our side and our answer is as close as a prayer.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

What impossibility will you share with God today?

The Bible

May 24
Daily Reading – 1 Kings 9 / John 5:37-47

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

John 5:46-47 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

There’s so much controversy today over the versions of the Bibles. Which one’s right, which one’s wrong? As most of you know, I use the King James Version. It’s been around for centuries and I believe it’s an accurate translation from the original manuscripts.

Do you know who really wins when we argue over of which version is correct? God’s oldest enemy the Devil. He has allowed people to get so confused by the debate of the versions of God’s Word, that many people now question whether any version is really God’s Word. They’ve lost their trust in the Bible. Just like Jesus told the Jews in John 5:47, if you don’t believe the writings, how will you believe in Jesus.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Couldn’t we make the Words of God more real
to this world by living them, over arguing them?

More Than Two

May 23
Daily Reading – 1 Kings 8 / John 5:28-36

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

John 5:31 & 36 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true… But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

According to the bible, the Jewish rule for presenting evidence required any claim to be backed up by at least two witnesses. Jesus said to those listening in John 5:31, if I tell you who I am, you’ll not believe me. However, there was the witness of John the Baptist who foretold His coming, and the witness of those who had seen the miracles He had done. In John 5:37-47 He speaks of God the Father being a witness as well as the words of Moses. Much more than two witnesses.

People may not say so, but they also want more than two witnesses before they’ll believe. Some witness for Christ and break the ground, another plants the seed, another waters that seed. Then God gets the increase.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

  Will you be a witness
that God may need today?

There Is Always A Critic

May 22
Daily Reading – 1 Kings 7 / John 5:1-27

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

John 5:9-10 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath. The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

If you knew someone who had a crippling illness for 38 years and then was made well what would be your first statement to them? Would you criticize the crumpled clothes they wore? Would you say they might want to shave and comb their hair? No, you’d probably be overjoyed that they were made whole. Yet this is what was happening in today’s text and the first thing he’s confronted with is, your breaking a rule.

Too often we as believers have become so rule oriented that we miss the blessings of God on people’s lives. Instead of taking some time to rejoice with them, we immediately tell them what they need to do next. While we may think we are helping, we are at the same time missing all the joy of the moment.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

  Shouldn’t we just enjoy
God’s blessing with others first?
