Some Things Never Change

February 28
Daily Reading – Numbers 3 / Mark 6:1-29

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Mark 6:12 And they went out, and preached that men should repent.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

When Jesus sent the disciples out into the communities to preach, what was their message? Was it, “People, watch for the miracles?” No, although God granted them the ability to do many miracles to substantiate their message was true . Was it, “Think good thoughts and live a good life and you’ll be ok?” No, that has never worked. So what was the message?

It’s the same message Pastors and all Christians need to preach today. They preached, “that men should repent.” Sadly today we hear a lot of’ “I’m ok, you’re ok,” messages from the pulpits of America. Repentance is not a popular message, but it is the right one.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

  What message do you share
with a lost and dying world?

Who Touched Me?

February 27
Daily Reading – Numbers 1- 2 / Mark 5:21-43

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Mark 5:30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Why did Jesus say, “Who touched my clothes?” Even those around Him thought this was a weird question. There were crowds of people pressing on all sides. Many people were touching Him. Also, Jesus knows everything. He would have known who touched Him. In verse 32, it says He looked around to see her.

Jesus didn’t need to have anyone tell Him who had touched Him, He knew. So why did He ask? He asked so that she would speak to Him, and His answer to her prayer might also help those around have faith in him. Today many have stopped going to prayer meetings because they feel they can pray in silent, alone and God hears them. He does, but how does His answer to your prayer help others around you?

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Might God be saying to you, who touched Me?

There Is HOPE

February 26
Daily Reading – Leviticus 26 – 27 / Mark 5:1-20

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Mark 5:19 Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

In Mark 5, we find a man who had tormented his family and towns people to the point they wanted nothing to do with him. They’d gone so far as to tie him up and leave him in the tombs. They turned their backs on him in hope he might die. However, Jesus helped him and he became a testimony of God’s grace.

Even today, we have those who a menace to society. They say and do hurtful things until even those who love them, want nothing to do with them. Often society gives up hope, and they in turn lose hope. We must remember, with Jesus there is HOPE! There’s nothing God can’t do and no one He doesn’t love. Who knows, they might be His greatest witness someday.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Who do you know in need of that kind of help?
Will you commit to pray daily
for God’s work in their lives?

What Do We Listen To?

February 25
Daily Reading – Leviticus 25 / Mark 4:21-41

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Mark 4:24 And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Today we are bombarded with all kinds of things to listen too. Music, television programs, podcasts, telephones, and on and on the list goes. There is usually some sound or noise going on everyday all day long. To the point now that many people begin to feel uncomfortable if there is not some background noise going on all the time.

Jesus warned those who would listen in our verse today to take heed to what they hear. That’s still good advice today. Who we listen to and what we listen to makes a difference in what we think and how we live our lives.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

What will you be listening to today?
Is it helping you, or hurting you?

A Sower Sows

February 24
Daily Reading – Leviticus 23 – 24 / Mark 4:1-20

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Mark 4:14 The sower soweth the word.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

In the parable that Jesus shared with the disciples and those who would listen, there are many variables. There is the wayside crowd that never accepts the word. There are the stony ground groups who hear the word, but never do anything with it. Then there are those who are in the thorns and can’t let go of the world. Finally, there are those who hear the word, receive it, and by it, they are gloriously changed.

However there is one thing that never changes. The sower is always sowing the seed. No matter where it falls or how it grows, his job is simply sow the seed. Our job as Christians is not to make the seed grow. Our responsibility is to continually sow the seed.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

  Where will you cast
the seed of God’s word today?

Which Side Of The Fence

February 23
Daily Reading – Leviticus 21-22 / Mark 3:22-35

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Mark 3:24-25 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Over the years, I’ve told hundreds of youth, be cautious whom you marry. Be sure your mate for life believes as you do. I tell people going into business, be careful with whom you collaborates. A divided house can’t stand. I’ve seen churches of late, because of finances, or pressure to grow, accept anyone into membership regardless if their beliefs in doctrines match up or not. A divided kingdom can’t stand.

The worst is when we ourselves become divided in our own soul, not knowing what we believe. No church alone can fix that. Only God and His word can do that. In James 1:8 it says; “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” In Eph. 4:14 Paul says not to be, “carried about with every wind of doctrine.” We need to be on one side of the fence or another.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

  The question is,
“Which side of the fences are you on?

What Angers God?

February 22
Daily Reading – Leviticus 20 / Mark 3:1-21

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Mark 3:5 And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

We most often think of God as the God of love, peace, joy, longsuffering, and patience. How often do we think about Him as the God of anger? Here we see the only biblical reference to Christ being angry. What was He angry over? The same thing He is angry over today. God has always had a righteous anger with the hardheartedness of man and their sin of unbelief. However, He never lets this anger spill over into sin.

Anger only becomes sin when we let it control us. Paul said in Ephesians 4:26 you can be angry and sin not. This was not an anger of rage; it was an anger of hurt and grief. Jesus did not hate these men, He was angry at the sin that gripped them.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

We must ask ourselves, can we hurt,
grieve, or anger God today?

Made For Man

February 21
Daily Reading – Leviticus 18-19 / Mark 2

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Mark 2:27-28 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

What was the sabbath, the day of rest, made for? Well our verse today tells us. Jesus Himself tells us. The sabbath, or day of rest, was made for man. Man was not made to worship the day; the day was made and set apart to help the man. To have a day of rest.

It might be good for us to pay attention to what God has designed and desired for His creation. It’s God’s desire and plan that we NOT work 24/7 and have nothing left physically or spiritually for our family and for God.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

So if it’s God’s will that we should rest,
who do you think perhaps would want us
busy all the time with no time to relax,
no time for family, no time or energy left
to even worship the God who gave us this day?
Not hard to figure out is it?

The Way To Start A Day

February 20
Daily Reading – Leviticus 15-17 / Mark 1:21-45

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Mark 1:35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

People will often share with their pastor the troubles they encounter in life. They include financial, physical, emotional, relational, and occupational. When I talk with them about their bible reading and prayer life, they often will look at me with a puzzled look as if to say, “What does that have to do with my situation?”

I’m not saying that praying and bible reading will fix everything. I am saying it will not hurt anything. If we would start our day as Jesus began His, it might make our perspective on our situations a lot different. The problems may still be there, but we know God is there in the midst of our situation with us. He can bring peace in the midst of our stormy situations.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

How do you choose to start your day?

Still The Same Message

February 19 – Still The Same Message
Daily Reading – Leviticus 14 / Mark 1:1-20

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Mark 1:15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

I went to a Bible Conference one time and heard a preacher tell everyone, “You do not need to repent to be saved, just believe in Jesus.” WHAT, just believe? Well in that case the devil is saved. He believes there is a Jesus. Salvation is more than believing there’s a Jesus, it’s believing on Him. If you didn’t have to repent, someone should have told Jesus.

Believing there is a Jesus is not enough. Jesus said we are to believe the gospel. That’s the good news that Jesus came to die and shed His blood for your sin. Not so that you can live in sin, so you can live free from the power of sin. Jesus said, repent and believe.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Who are you going to believe?
A man who leaves people in their sin,
or a Saviour who frees people from their sin?
