KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 149:4 For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Way too often people get the misguided idea God is some big bully in the sky waiting to pounce on us when we disobey in the least of what we consider is sin. Although it’s true God cannot tolerate sin, it’s also true He is a patient and loving God. Just as a loving father would be overjoyed if one of his children, who made an error in judgment, saw the error and did what was necessary to make it right without being told, so God also finds happiness in us when we do what is right without being told. God finds pleasure in His children who truly love Him. He enjoys them and takes pleasure in providing for their well-being and their needs.

I find it comforting to know, God does not find pain and disgust with us. What a great joy it is also to think He finds pleasure in us. He will also beautify the humble of heart with salvation. This is a picture of what God is doing and will do for His children. What does it mean that God beautifies the meek? Well, picture if you will how you might beautify a doll or a child by dressing them in nice attire. How during the Christmas Season many beautify a tree by placing pretty ornaments on it.  In the same way, God beautifies us when He cloths us in His righteousness. He will adorn us, or place upon us the righteousness of His Son Jesus Christ. In other words, He gives us His best, His Son, Jesus Christ.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

God has given to us His best, His only begotten Son Jesus Christ for salvation. He finds great pleasure in us and loves us. Should we not do the same?  Can we show Him love and adoration as we share His love with others at the end of this year? As God finds pleasure in us, let’s find pleasure in serving Him.

SUNDAY’S BIBLE INTAKE:

Today we suggest you read and study whatever the Lord has laid on your Pastors heart. Whatever scripture he uses for today’s messages were given to him by God for your specific needs.

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Ezekiel 13:3 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing!

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Have you ever woke up in the middle of the night and found yourself unable to get to sleep? You’ve counted sheep until you hate the wooly little creatures for no reason. Maybe you have counted until you have just run out of numbers. You’ve tried to think of a peaceful place and the quietness keeps you awake. It’s too late in the night to take a sleeping pill, as you’ll be groggy all morning. It’s way too early to wake someone else in the house to talk with. TV has nothing but infomercials, reruns and junk. What should you do? Do as the king did in Ester 6:1. Get out your Bible and begin to read it. It might very well be God is trying to get your attention.

We are so busy during the day with work, family, friends, and chores. Time to get alone with God may seem to have just slipped by before you knew it. Now things are quiet and peaceful and God is saying… “Let’s talk a bit.” I have found some of my most intimate times with God are early in the morning. I read a bit and pray a bit. I speak to Him and then read and let Him speak to me. You may wonder if I’m tired the rest of the day. Well sometimes, however it seems God gives me the energy and alertness to get through my day. Then guess what? The next night I usually sleep really well.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Spend time with God on a regular basis. As you’re making those New Year’s Resolutions, resolve to set aside a time every single day to be alone with God. I promise it will become one of your favorite times of the day. You will not be sorry.

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Revelation 19:7-8 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Oh how I’m looking forward to the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. (I know some of you are saying, “He looks forward to any meal.” Well you’re right.) However, this is going to be a very special fellowship time. A banquet like no one has ever seen before. Moreover, I will be part of the church, who is the Bride of Christ, The Guest of Honor.

The King James Bible says that I will be dressed in clean and white linen. In addition, this linen is the righteousness of the saints. Some versions have interpreted that to be the righteous acts of the saints. This is a terrible interpretation. My righteous acts will not get me a place at that table and nor will yours or anyone else’s. It will be the righteousness of Christ, which He has bestowed upon us. Only His Righteousness will guarantee our place at this table. In Zech. 3:4, it says God will clothe us with a garment fit for Him. In Zeph. 3:8, it says He will punish those in strange apparel. Strange apparel will be on those who come in their own righteousness. They try to attend the banquet dressed in their good deeds. We will not stand before the God of all creation in any of our own righteousness; we will be clothed by God in His Son’s righteousness. Our best is as filthy rags before a Holy God. We will stand clothed in the righteousness bestowed upon us by our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Friend, never be mistaken. Your righteousness will not get you into heaven. Your service to God keeps you in close communion with Him. It shows others in whom it is you put your faith. It helps you to live the best possible life while here on earth. However, it does not, and cannot get you a seat at the table of the Lord.  Only accepting the righteousness of Christ can do so. SO, DO THAT. Trust in what Jesus has done for your salvation.  Be there. I’d love to have dinner with you.

December 27, 2017   Zechariah 4-6 / Revelation 15-16

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 27:5-6 Open rebuke is better than secret love. Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

There’s nothing worse to a person’s emotions than to find out someone who they thought of as a friend, co-laborer, and helper, has turned on them, and is telling others damaging things about them. God sometimes refers to them as gossips.

It’s one thing to hear from your so-called friend that they believe you’re making a mistake and to have them try to help you. It’s quite another to have them say one thing to your face with a smile, then run off in the corner and bad mouth you or your decisions to others.

Open rebuke or faithful wounds given in love toward someone should be taken in love. If someone comes to help you by sharing an area they may see in your life that’s damaging your testimony or harmful to your walk with God, and they do it in a loving manner, we ought to accept it and see what God’s Word says about the matter.

On the other hand, if a person comes and tell you how much they love you, but will not tell you if they see trouble in your life, can they truly say they love you? The answer is NO! Even worse, if they tell you they love you and then gossip about your faults behind your back, can they say they love you, NO!

God’s Word never hides the truth. It’s there for us to read and understand. God never talks behind our back or lets us think it’s ok to sin. However, He always says so in the context of love. Always wanting the best for us, He tries to alert us to the cost of sin. Can He say He really loves us, YES.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Avoid false love, as you don’t need the aggravation in your life. Draw close to true love. God’s best love was displayed by sending His Son Jesus to live and die for you and me. The truth might hurt at times, but the truth wrapped in love will be the best thing you can find. Jesus is the Way, the TRUTH, and Life.

Some Things Never Change…

December 26, 2017   Zechariah 1-3 / Revelation 13-14

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 145:13-14 Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endure throughout all generations. The LORD upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Christmas is such a wonderful time of year for most. It brings with it a sense of joy and happiness. People who have not been around in a while stop by and spend time with you. Bosses who you thought never recognized you send you a card or give a call. People exchange pleasant conversation and gifts. It’s such a great time of the year.

However, studies have shown, in the days to follow there are more cases of depression and suicide than at any other time of year. You may wonder why? Many believe one cause may be the high of all the attention, which swells until Christmas, drops like a rock on the next day. It’s over. No more gifts. No more jolly pleasantries. It’s back to the real world. People are thrust back into LIFE. The problem then is people had begun to live in a world that doesn’t exist. A world where nothing’s wrong and everyone is happy. Truth is there is a lot wrong. Sin is everywhere and the entire world is not happy. So how do we keep these ups and downs to a minimum in our life?

The answer is to find something in life that will be constant. People need to have a staple in life that remains the same before and after Christmas and will be the same forever. There’s only one thing in life that’s never-changing. It’s not what as much as it is who. GOD! His kingdom is never-ending and you can be part of it. He rules over every generation and all nations. He can be your permanent, never changing God if you allow Him too. He will hold you up when you begin to feel low and make something special out of you if you’ll allow Him to. He loves you and wants the best for you, always.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Don’t let this season cause your emotions to be bounced up and down like a ship in the open water. Anchor to the rock Christ Jesus. Let Him be your constant in life this year, next year, and for all eternity.  Jesus never fails and He never changes. Oh yes, and He never quits loving you. Call on Him. He’s as close as a prayer.

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Nehemiah 8:5-6 And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up: And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the LORD with their faces to the ground.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

At the reading of God’s word, the people stood to their feet. They were not asked to rise or to stand. Just out of pure respect for what was contained in the words written on the pages they stood.

As a queen rides past, people stand. As the President of the United States enters a room, people stand. Why do we do that? It’s done out of respect for the position they’ve obtained and their place in leadership over us.

After the reading of God’s word, when Ezra had offered blessings and praise to the Lord, the people did three things. They lifted their hands with palms open showing no weapons, no hostility, holding onto nothing. Open hands also displayed an expectation of supply by their God. They said, “Amen” with their voice, or more literally, so be it. Saying “Let it be as God has spoken.” Lastly, they bowed their face to the ground in a show of worship. They would not look on God as their equal, but as superior.

Today people do not lift hands very often because someone might see them. They don’t shout AMEN anymore because people will complain. They often will not even close their eyes much less bow their head to the ground in respect of God. Jesus came as a baby to this place called earth, but He lives as a King on high. He came to regular people but He lives as God the Son. He came to die for the sins of many that He might save their soul. Many have accepted Him. Have you?

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

On this Christmas Morning, can you find a time to get alone with God and lift your hands, bow your head and say amen? Let it be as God has spoken. May you all have a Merry and “Christ filled” Christmas.

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Revelation 12:9-10 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

This season is all about love, laughter, and enjoying this festive time of year. What would this day be like if all day long someone rode in your car and said terrible, horrible things about your spouse, your children or your best friends?  What if it didn’t stop there and when you got to the place you were going, they tagged right along and continued with this terrible chatter about all the faults of these people you love? On the drive home, it’s more of the same. Then while trying to relax at home, a never-ending tale of the worst possible things about your favorite people keeps coming. Imagine if you will this went on day after day after day after day. Wouldn’t that make your seasons merry and your spirits bright?

Do you know today, right now, this is what God’s listening to from Satan? He listens to a constant accusing of all our many faults. Everything we do or say and any mistake we make, Satan twists and changes to make us look as bad as possible before God.

The good news is Jesus is our advocate with the Father. As Satan makes His accusations, Jesus, like an attorney, pleads our case.  Saying, the price is paid, settled at the cross of Calvary. Their sin has been paid for with the Blood of the Lamb. Then He holds out His nail scared hands as proof of the payment. One day God will hear enough and Satan will be banished forever from the ear of God. Now that will be a very merry day in heaven indeed.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Satan uses everything he can to accuse us. Let’s not give him anymore than he already has to use against us this Christmas and New Year Season.

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 141:3-4 Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practice wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Have you ever thought, boy I wish I hadn’t said or done that? Well I have. Too often, we find ourselves in the position of feeling as if we have not just placed one foot in our mouth, but both feet and part of a leg. We spout off words or commit deeds with little or no thought for the feelings of others, much less their good or well-being. Then when it’s done, we look back and think I really wish I could do that over. Well, YOU CAN’T.

You can’t do things over. You might have an opportunity to make things right from time to time. You may have the chance to repeat something again, correcting what you should have done right the first time. However, the truth is, time marches on and you can’t do things over. Once a comment or gesture is made, it’s done. Those who heard your first words or saw your first action will know what you did the first time no matter what you do to correct it. They may forgive, but hardly ever forget. This is why the Psalmist was praying and begging God to help him guard his comments and his actions. That he might do and say the right things that would be honoring and pleasing to God the first time around.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

As we prepare in the next few days to meet with family and friends, there are several opportunities to say and do the right things or the wrong things. We can be Christ like or be worldly. What we do will honor or dishonor God in front of those around us. This challenge is almost, if not completely impossible to do without God’s help. We should all pray the prayer of the Psalmist asking God to guard and guide our conversation and actions. That all we do would be pleasing unto HIM.

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Haggai 2:8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

In this passage of scripture, we find the people of God rebuilding the House of God. God tells them the silver and gold of this world is His. Some people still today don’t seem to get the truth in this statement. They read this or another verse where it says God owns everything and will say things like, “If God owns everything, all the gold and silver, then why does He need my money and things?” We kind of look around and see so many others who have so much more and wonder why does God want my money?

It’s in this thought pattern we find the problem. Everyone seems to think what he or she has is their own. The thinking is along the lines of, “I worked for it, earned it, so it’s mine.” The truth is we don’t own anything. It’s all on loan from God. God did not say the REST of the gold and silver is mine. He says the gold and silver, all of it, including what He loaned you, belongs to Him. What you have is someone else’s. It all belongs to God.

Let’s pretend for a moment, ok? Let’s pretend you’re rich and decide to share your wealth with others. (We’re pretending) You choose to give someone a thousand dollars, and plan to give them another thousand every week for several years. However, you didn’t tell them of your ongoing plans. You simply gave them one thousand dollars. After you give them the money, you turn and say, “Could I have one hundred of the one thousand back?” Instead of a grateful heart for any gift amount given them they say, “no way, you gave it to me and I’m keeping it. Here, you can have a dollar.” Your wealth never changes. However, would you want to give them the planned amount next week? Sadly, this is how many people treat God and then can’t seem to understand when financial problems come their way.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

OK pretending is over. Let’s get real about this. If God owns it all, why does it seem He is so greedy with His money? The answer is He’s not. He is trying to teach us a life lesson. We’re not to be careless with what He gives us, nor are we to be greedy. Life is more than money. God loves to supply for our needs and have us to realize He’s doing it. God is so generous to us. Yet, how do we treat Him in return?

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Revelation 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

It’s getting close to Christmas, when many people look forward to opening presents from family and friends. Some have sent out their wish list and hope for certain things. Now stop for a second and ask yourself, how many past presents can you name? What ones really brought you happiness or pleasure enough to remember? We look at things often and think, “If I only had that, it would bring me pleasure forever.” However, after we have it for a while we are much like little children who tire of their new toy and begin looking on for something else.

Did you realize that the Lord, for His PLEASURE, created us? That’s right; all things were created for our Lord’s pleasure. When the Lord of all time sat down and thought, “What will bring me the most pleasure,” He thought of you. In addition, being the Lord, He also knew He would never tire of this creation. This creation has caused Him many problems and troubles over the centuries, but also much joy, and most of all, true love. When you read how we were created for God’s pleasure, don’t think as some may that we were created as a plaything to bring pleasure for a little while like a toy or gadget. This is not the nature of God. We were created to bring God pleasure forever.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

What have you done in the last year to bring God pleasure? Did you lead someone else to Him? Did you remember Him daily? Did you listen to Him as He spoke to you out of His word regularly? Did you bring Him pleasure? Think hard. OK, now let me help you a bit. He finds pleasure in you just being you. He surely wants you to witness, read your Bible, and pray. Those things bring about blessings in your life. However, they are not conditions of His love. He loves you and finds pleasure in just you. Just because you’re you, and that alone should make you want to love Him. Moreover, your love for Him brings Him pleasure. Love God because He first loved you.
